We had a blast at Yoga Fest PDX this Summer back in June. There were yoga classes all day long and lots of booths where you could go learn about the yoga studios and local businesses. We decided to set up a booth to do some live podcasting and did five interviews that day! Lesson learned for next time? Remember to leave time for lunch! It was the first time we had done anything like this. It was super fun, we met a lot of great people, and raffled off a pretty cool prize.
The first in the series of Yoga Fest podcasts is an interview we did with a local Portland studio called Yoga Riot. We had six people, teachers, and new teacher training grads, join us for the interview. Yoga Riot is a baptiste-inspired studio. Part of their philosophy is that teachers should be at cause for leadership in our communities. We talked to Annie Ory, the founder of Yoga Riot, Kari Dougherty, Katie Presley who teaches the emPOWER class, Stone Cairns, who teaches meditation, and two of their new teacher training grads Taylor and Michael.

Baptiste is a type of yoga focused on personal transformation created by Walt Baptiste in the 1940s, inspired by the teachings of Krishnamacharya, Iyengar, and Desikachar. It focuses on physical strength, meditation and self inquiry. Baptiste yoga is a challenging vinyasa flow done in a heated room.
